Safer Streets and Healthier Citizens

Ever run a red light, jaywalk, or speed through a school zone? Most of us have. But none of us should. The City of Davis Street Smarts program addresses an issue that affects us all...driver, pedestrian and bicyclist safety.
STREET SMARTS — a traffic safety education program-is designed to get people thinking in order to help make our streets safer. We use public education to build awareness, provide safety tips, and to remind us all to take responsibility for our actions on the road.
Street Smarts is focused on:
- Speeding
- Red light running
- Stop sign running
- Distracted Driving
- School zone safety
- Crosswalk safety and compliance
These behaviors are the leading causes of accidents in Davis, and particularly impact our most vulnerable populations - school kids and pedestrians. Our goal is to reduce the number of traffic-related accidents, injuries and deaths. We encourage people to adopt new attitudes and behaviors that will make our streets, roads and highways safer and friendlier for everyone who uses them.
The Street Smarts program is supported by a Safe Routes to School grant, and also promotes the use of walking, biking, and other forms of alternative transportation to get to and from school. Fewer cars on the road means better air quality, less traffic congestion, fewer traffic incidents, and healthier children.
It's just another way we can respect the community in which we live!
