Hey Kids! Design your own traffic safety poster! Enter for a chance to win great prizes and have your design featured in an art show, posters, ads, and more.

GOAL
We hope you will learn about traffic safety while showing off your creative designs and messages. Winners will see their artwork in an art show at the Davis Art Center, and on Street Smarts materials throughout the city.
THEMES
- Safe helmet use-for kids and adults!
- Safe bicycle riding-follow the rules of the road
- Safe driving-no phoning or texting
- Safe street crossing -stop, look left/right/left
RULES
Download an entry form or pick one up from your school’s front office.
Fill out the entry form clearly and completely and include it with your submission.
Write your name, grade, teacher and school on the back of your artwork in pencil.
Select one or more themes from the box above to use in your design.
Include the Street Smarts logo (the triangle with the light bulb).
Hand–draw or paint your artwork.

Use 11X17 or 8 ½X11 white paper. If you need a sheet of paper, you can get one from the Public Works Department.
TIPS
Discuss the contest themes with your friends, parents, or teachers.
Use pencil, colored pencil, marker, watercolor or other paint, oil pastels, or any other great art supplies.

Brainstorm some good ideas and make some sketches.
Use your best drawing and handwriting skills.
Make sure that you spell everything correctly.
Work slowly and carefully – DON’T RUSH!
Don’t use a computer to make your artwork.
Use only your own artwork (no magazines, stickers, ads).
Avoid 3–D effects like glitter or puffy paint.
Keep your artwork FLAT or rolled. Don’t fold your art.
Have loads of fun being creative!
JUDGING CRITERIA
Original concept
Strong visual design and composition
Clear communication of the traffic safety theme
Story–telling ability (does your artwork tell a story?)
Must be enrolled in a Davis elementary school or a home–schooled student living in Davis
DEADLINE
Entries should be mailed or delivered to the City of Davis Public Works Administration Building, 1717 Fifth St., Davis, CA 95616 by November 10th, 5 pm.
AWARD CEREMONY
Winners will be announced at the Street Smarts Poster Contest Awards Ceremony at the Davis Art Center December 9th, 5 pm.
