City Invites Proposals for CDBG and HOME Projects

Grant applications are due to the City by 5:00 p.m. on January 22, 2019

Post Date:December 21, 2018 1:41 pm

The City of Davis expects to distribute approximately $800,000 to help local groups provide affordable housing and social services to low and moderate income Davis residents in the coming year thanks to Davis’ share of Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Housing Investment Partnerships (HOME) programs. The funds are provided by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development Department and are awarded by the City to local nonprofit organizations that deliver critically needed services such as meals, shelter, transportation, elder care services, and healthcare to low-income residents.

“These funds help local non-profit agencies leverage resources to serve our lowest income residents and address critical needs, such as hunger, housing and health care,” says Mayor Brett Lee.

The City expects to receive approximately $500,000 in CDBG and $300,000 in HOME funds for the fiscal year 2019-2020, although exact amounts will not be known for several months, once Congress appropriates funding for these grant programs. These funds can be used for affordable housing and other community development activities, for vital public service projects and for removal of architectural barriers. Some of the organizations that have received funding in the past include Citizens Who Care, CommuniCare Health Centers, Davis Community Meals, Short-Term Emergency Aid Committee, and Yolo Community Care Continuum. Only 15% of anticipated CDBG grant would be available for public services.

An Applicant Workshop will be hosted by the City of Davis on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the City Hall Community Chambers – 23 Russell Blvd., Davis, at 10:00 a.m. All applicants are strongly encouraged to attend this workshop. The workshop is expected to last at least an hour.

Grant applications are due to the City by 5:00 p.m. on January 22, 2019, either via email to mrice@cityofdavis.org or at the City Clerk’s Office in City Hall, 23 Russell Blvd., if paper applications are required.

The City’s Social Services Commission will recommend funding amounts in March and in April the City Council is expected to decide which groups will receive grants.
