Current On-Street Yard Material Pile Collection Schedule to Remain in Effect Until Fall 2019
At their regular meeting on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, the Davis City Council voted on modifications to the existing on-street yard material pile collection service frequency. These changes, however, will not occur immediately, and the current collection schedule will remain in effect until fall 2019.
Under the current collection schedule, yard material piles are collected in the street once a month (during the first week starting with a Monday of every month) and once a week from mid-October through mid-December. Streets are currently swept once per month. Please visit DavisRecycling.org for details on the current collection schedule.
The future schedule adopted by Council has 11 collection times, or “pick-ups” per year: 10 pick-ups in the fall/winter and one pick-up in the spring. In addition, Council has asked staff to look at the frequency of street sweeping and return with recommendations.
Details on the future collection schedule will be developed over the next few months. Before any changes are officially made to the collection schedule, there are a number of steps that must be taken, including modifications to the City’s Municipal Code and an amendment to the waste hauling agreement with Recology. It is anticipated that the changes will be in place by Fall 2019. The City will communicate information about the revised schedule to residents well in advance of the changes. Concurrent with the changes, the City hopes to launch an email notification system where residents can sign up to receive a reminder about when the pick-up will occur for their part of town.
