City Announces Artists Selected for Think Outside the Box Project

Post Date:March 06, 2019 2:39 pm

The City of Davis is pleased to announce the 2019 selected artists for the Think Outside the Box project. These artists will contract directly with the City of Davis to create designs that will be transferred to vinyl and wrapped around a City of Davis utility or traffic control box. Thirteen boxes have been pre-selected to be included in the first phase for this project, and selected artwork will be paired with an appropriate box and location by the selection team. Box locations include corners in front of City Hall, International House Davis, and Davis Arts Center. City Arts staff is working with ProWraps, the same vinyl company that was used to install Sacramento’s Capitol Box Art Project.

The City encouraged submission of artwork from artists who had not created public art in the past. Due to the flexible nature of the vinyl medium, the boxes can accommodate a wide range of creative work. A $500 honorarium will be awarded to each selected artist. Selected proposals demonstrated high quality design and originality, with work that will enhance the surrounding areas of the boxes.

Congratulations to the following 2019 Think Outside the Box Artists:

  • Angela Tannehill
  • Brian Alexander
