SAMI (Stress Absorbing Membrane Interlayer) Process

The schedule for paving in West Davis in the Stonegate/Oyster Bay area has shifted by one day. Paving on Thursday, 7/25, will be on Magellan and Chesapeake Bay. Paving on Friday, 7/26, will be on Astoria, Farallon and Seabright. We are asking residents not to water front landscaping through Friday because water can damage this paving process. Please be aware of no parking zones. The contractor will accommodate as needed, but please plan to park on adjacent streets during the paving process if you know you need to exit any of these streets. Thank you for your patience during this process.

City of Davis will be rehabilitating several roads near the Oyster Bay Avenue neighborhood. This project is part of the annual pavement management program, in which streets are prioritized based on their pavement quality, age and amount of traffic. The streets identified will receive a treatment called Stress Absorbing Membrane Interlayer (SAMI). This project entails placing asphalt-rubber SAMI between distressed pavements and a rubberized hot mix asphalt (RHMA) overlay to seal existing cracks and retard reflective cracking. This project will place two interlayers, a 3/8” and 1/2” aggregate placed over a thick, hot-applied binder composed of asphalt blended with approximately 20% by weight rubber, followed by a final 1-1/2” overlay of rubberized hot mix asphalt. The City has contracted with Northwest Paving, Inc. to serve as our project contractor.

The project is scheduled to begin in early July of 2019 with an anticipated completion date of August 2019. These dates are approximate and subject to change, depending on weather and/or other project conditions.
