On May 21, 2024, City Council consolidated the Natural Resources Commission and the Tree Commission into a new Climate and Environmental Justice Commission. The purpose of the Climate and Environmental Justice Commission is to advise City Council on climate matters through the lens of environmental justice.

Function/Purpose
Advises the City Council on the preservation, management and enhancement of the city's natural resources. Reviews and makes recommendations relating to maintaining the quality and quantity of the city's water supply and wastewater treatment processes, and promoting water conservation. Reviews and makes recommendations pertaining to the degradation of air quality in the Yolo-Solano-Sacramento region. Reviews and recommends ways to implement the Yolo County Solid Waste Plan and improve city-wide recycling efforts. Advises on ways to promote the use of renewable sources of energy. Advises on environmental matters relating to global warming, and toxic and hazardous substances. Reports to the City Council recommendations for legislation and other actions that would limit actual or potential threats to the natural resources of the city.
