The City’s annual César Chávez Celebration will be held on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. during the Davis Farmers Market in Central Park, located at 401 C Street. Sponsored by the City of Davis Human Relations Commission, this year’s theme is “The Power of Collective Action,” and community members of all ages are encouraged to attend this free event to celebrate and honor the work of civil rights leader César Chávez.
The program will include speakers and performances from the California Association of Professional Scientists, a Filipino Farmworkers historian, César Chávez Elementary School first graders, Mariachi del Valle and others. Participants can expect speakers, performances and dancers. The event will also have an art activity and host resource tables showcasing local organizations.
“This event celebrates the life and work of the civil rights leader César Chávez,” said Davis Mayor Josh Chapman. “Everyone deserves the right to dignity and respect regardless of what they do or where they work. Access, equity, participation and human rights are part of the change needed for social justice to become a reality.”
