The survey for the lighting options downtown closed on January 31, 2024.
Downtown Davis is known for many things, including great food, shady trees and “twinkle” lights. Though these decorative string lights have charmingly adorned downtown Davis, adding ambiance and beauty to the community, they have also been strung for more than a decade and need to be replaced due to age and wear and tear.
In addition, there are 900+ City trees in the downtown Davis area that need to be assessed and pruned as part of the City’s proactive block pruning program. There are about 100 trees in downtown that have lights on them, and only about 50 trees have working lights.
As a result of these dual needs, City staff are taking this opportunity to assess the health of trees downtown, prune them as needed and replace the decorative lights with temporary lights, until a more thorough and strategic long-term plan for tree health and permanent decorative lighting in downtown Davis can be created/purchased.
*The work included in this project will only entail City trees and the lights strung on these trees. Lighting, trees and outdoor appliances/furniture on business/private properties will not be included, disturbed or disrupted.
