The City's Annual Pavement Improvement Project has a small footprint this year. The project is being completed in two packages. The first is the Shared-Use Path Package that will reconstruct the Aspen Greenbelt shared use path, a section of the Covell Blvd shared use path and a small portion of the multi-use path in North Davis, between Anderson Road and Heron Place. The second package will reconstruct two streets, Colusa Avenue and Juniper Place.

Shared-Use Path Package

Portions of the multi-use path, including path entrances, will be closed during this work. There will be concrete work done at some of the path entrances. The Aspen Greenbelt and Covell portion of the project will be done in phases to minimize detours.

We apologize for the inconvenience of doing this work during the school year, but other projects were prioritized for this summer

Colusa Avenue and Juniper Place Package

These streets will be reconstructed, which includes portions of the concrete sidewalk, curb, gutter and curb ramps. Residents should be prepared for construction inconveniences including, delays getting to and from homes, no street parking, sidewalk and pathway detours, and increased levels of dirt, dust and noise

The City will do outreach throughout the project including sending postcard notifications to residents in the impacted areas, canvassing with door hangers and posting on City social media (Facebook, Instagram, X), including on Nextdoor.

Shared Use Paths

Aspen Greenbelt/Covell Blvd Path Update 10/29/24

Phase 1 and 2 – Aspen Greenbelt Path below Bryce Lane and Saratoga Lane – ALMOST COMPLETE! The path in this section is open! Most of the work is complete except for some patch paving that will occur at a later date, closing the path again for a day or two. The City will update the public on patch paving dates. All entrance/exit ramps to this path section will be open by 10/30.

Phase 3 and 4 - Aspen Greenbelt Path including Bryce Lane/Saratoga Lane intersections and above to Glacier Drive crossing Olympic DriveThis path section is now closed for paving and concrete ramp construction at path entrances through approximately Nov. 18. After paving is complete in this phase, the path will be open for travel, but all path entrances/exits may not be open due to continuing concrete work. The City will update the public when the paving is complete and when the path entrances/exits are open.

Path users will need to detour to Denali Dr, Olympic Dr or to the Evergreen Greenbelt (parallel to El Capitan St).

Upcoming Work:

Phase 5 – Covell Blvd multi-use path from Shasta Drive to Denali Drive

Work will commence in mid-November for about two weeks for paving and concrete ramp construction at path entrances/exits through early December.

Phase 6 – Covell Blvd multi-use path from Denali Drive to just after UC Davis Medical Group business office at 2660 West Covell

Work will commence in early December for about two weeks for paving with concrete ramp construction at path entrances through mid-December.

The Aspen Greenbelt/ Covell Blvd path paving job has mobilized. Please see this tentative schedule, which is weather dependent. Portions of the greenbelt are closed as they are being paved, some path entrances are closed as concrete upgrades are installed, and path users will need to detour to Denali Dr, Olympic Dr or to the Evergreen Greenbelt (parallel to El Capitan St).

Paving on the Aspen Greenbelt multi-use path (including paving and concrete work at entrance points) from just north of Shasta Dr to Covell Blvd will begin on Monday, Sept. 30. The City contractor is working northward in phases. The northern limits of the first phase are approximately where Saratoga Place and Bryce Lane intersect the path. The path and path entrances south of this limit will be closed for work starting Monday.

Portions of the greenbelt will be closed as they are being paved, and path users will need to detour to Denali Dr, Olympic Dr or to the Evergreen Greenbelt (parallel to El Capitan St).

After the Aspen Greenbelt is finished, part of the Covell Blvd multi-use path will be paved from Shasta Dr to just past the UC Davis Clinic Medical Offices at 2440 W. Covell.

We apologize for the inconvenience of doing this work during the school year, but we will diligently work with the contractor to minimize any inconveniences.

Work hours are Mon-Fri, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please expect construction noise and dust. If you are in the immediate area of the work, you will see some “no parking” barriers 72 hours ahead of the project time. Door hangers will provide updates to nearby residents prior to each phase of the upcoming work.

Project Overview

The City of Davis manages a comprehensive Pavement Management Program (PMP) that includes maintaining and repaving several miles of local streets and bike paths annually. The PMP aims to improve pavement condition by using a comprehensive approach to repair streets and bike paths in poor or failed condition, as well as proactively maintain streets and bike paths to prevent them from getting to a condition where major rehabilitation or reconstruction is necessary. To achieve this, the City completes a mix of both maintenance (pavement preservation) and pavement rehabilitation and reconstruction projects. This is why you sometimes see streets that are in better condition than others receiving treatments. By proactively maintaining the roads, the pavement life is extended, maximizing the value of each dollar spent on the roads.

The 2024 Pavement Rehabilitation project packages will focus mainly on pavement reconstruction. See above for maps of the streets and multi-use paths scheduled to be repaved this summer/fall. Roadways and multi-use paths that are targeted for reconstruction will have the existing asphalt pavement milled off, or removed, and repaved. In addition to the street resurfacing work, some spot curb and gutter will be replaced. Non-compliant curb ramps for pathways will be upgraded to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. Additionally, utility work may need to be completed to accommodate this work.
