Notice of Intent to Spray - Arroyo Pool

Notice: Spray notification to apply Ortho Weed B Gone throughout the turf area at Arroyo Pool.

This application is due to the number of invasive clover and foreign grasses that are growing throughout the turf area that surrounds the pool at Arroyo Park. City of Davis staff have attempted to mitigate the clover with mechanical control, primarily mowing and string trimmers, as well as a previous application of herbicide this past spring. Although this previous herbicide application was marginally successful, the clover that continues to grow attracts bees and other inspects that have proven to be problematic and harmful for program users. The application will take place on weekends only, as conditions and time permit between July 23 through August 13, 2022. Areas of application will be fenced off.

Locations to spray: the turf area at Arroyo Pool

Pesticide: Ortho Weed B Gone: 2,4-D, dimethylamine salt, Quinclorac, Dicamba dimethylamine salt

Target Pest: Clover.

Methods Used and Strategies to Prevent Future Use: As previously stated, Park staff have completed mechanical (string trimmers and mowers) and one herbicide application in efforts to eradicate the clover. The mechanical attempts have been temporary, at best, as the clover continues to grow at a much faster pace than the turf, giving it a higher chance of flowering. The herbicide application that was completed this past spring showed improvement in the reduction of clover, but the complete eradication was unsuccessful. A complete and routine turf maintenance program will be implemented in the fall, which will include over seeding, in efforts to out-compete the clover, allowing the turf to thrive and lessen the chances of clover growth. Staff will continue to use mechanical methods and inspections so that this area does not need to be sprayed annually.
