Parent Survey About Walking and Biking to School

Street Smarts—the bicycle, pedestrian, and car safety program for the City of Davis—  has collected information to learn more about how K-12 students travel to and from school since 2011.

The 2021 Safe Routes to School Arrival and Departure Tally was a joint initiative between the DJUSD and the City of Davis Street Smarts program. This data is used when we apply for grants and supports our efforts to promote safe and healthy forms of transportation for Davis students. Working with the school district  during the whole month of October 2021 we were able to collect travel data on approximately 5,500 DJUSD student trips for K-12 grades.

The district average for K-12 walking trips to school is 15 %, biking is 30% and carpooling is 5%. Family vehicle accounts for 50% of the school commute trips. Korematsu Elementary School was a standout school for active transportation having 31% walking and 22% biking!
