Portable Restroom Assessment

In the summer of 2024, portable restrooms were removed from several locations, including Walnut (south), Putah Creek, and Oak Grove Parks.  This decision was made due to increased vandalism, chronic littering, and damage that raised safety and resource concerns.  However, the City continues to provide portable restrooms in other key areas where usage is high and vandalism is not as prevalent.

The City will be reinstalling portable restrooms at two of the locations, Walnut Park and Putah Creek Park, for a 90-day trial period and to assess impacts.  After the trial, staff will evaluate the results in these two remote or less-trafficked areas, considering both safety and accessibility for park and greenbelt users, as well as costs to the City for mitigating and fixing issues (i.e., graffiti cleaning, replacement parts in the unit, etc.).

We appreciate hearing from our community and having encouraging and open discussions so please direct any questions or concerns you may have to the Parks & Community Services Department at PLifeBetter@cityofdavis.org.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this assessment period. We are aware of the need and importance of these bathrooms to our community. Your assistance in keeping the parks and greenbelts clean and safe is greatly valued.
