October 11, 2024 Update - NOW OPEN

The Walnut Sports Courts are OPEN! The courts have been under construction since May 2024. The project was phase 2 of the sports courts resurfacing project and included work at Walnut Park, La Playa Park and Oak Grove Park. The Walnut courts received new surfacing material, a ball wall and 4 additional pickleball courts with an additional gate and court barriers. There are a total of 4 tennis courts and 8 pickleball courts, all of the City’s sports courts are free access and open to the community on a first-come, first-served basis. The Walnut sports court location is also one of our lit-facilities allowing for recreational play until 10pm. Save the date for the ribbon cutting event on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.

August 30, 2024 Update - 

We are happy to share that more progress has been made at Walnut Park this week. The contractor installed a few layers of the levelling coat and applied the tennis court surfacing. We anticipate the court surfacing to finish up in the next two weeks and the access gates between the courts to be re-installed next week. The court dividers are still expected to arrive for installation in mid-September.

August 23, 2024 Update -

The contractor has made progress at Walnut Park! They are installing the pickleball court posts and surfacing. They anticipate the court dividers to arrive in mid-September, barring any delays.

August 2, 2024 Update -

The contractor is working on getting a cost estimate for the revised pickleball court layout and pickleball court barriers.

Staff are working on revising the Walnut Park pickleball court layout.

July 5, 2024 Update - 

Walnut Park - work continues, including demolition of asphalt and determining court layouts. 

La Playa Park and Oak Grove Park are both open and ready for use.

June 12, 2024 Update - 

Walnut Park - preparation work continues.

La Playa Park - concrete was poured late last week and is curing. Look for the game court markings by the end of next week.

Oak Grove Park - paving is underway and court markings will be placed later this month.

May 24, 2024 Update -

We are excited to announce that sports courts projects at Walnut Park, Oak Grove Park and La Playa Park will start construction on May 28, 2024. Courts will be fenced off during construction. Actual Construction Dates:

Walnut Park, 2700 Lillard: May 28, 2024 – August 19, 2024

La Playa Park, 3709 Ascada: May 28, 2024 – June 30, 2024

Oak Grove Park, 1900 Donner: May 29, 2024 – July 8, 2024

Pioneer is moved to another phase.

This project will be bid for construction in Spring 2024. Courts receiving the surface treatment include La Playa Park, Oak Grove Park, Pioneer Park and Walnut Park.
