2018 Fall Softball League Information
The Fall Adult Softball League is a seven game season starting Tuesday September 4th, 2018. Games are played at either Playfields or Community Park. All teams play in the evenings. Men’s leagues use two umpires each; coed leagues use one. In addition to team fees, teams will pay a $50 non-resident fee if 6 or more players reside outside Davis city limits. The League Coordinator have the authority to place teams in appropriate leagues to encourage fair play.
Fees are $455 for Men's League and $420 for Coed League. All new teams that did not participate in Spring or Summer 2018 are required to join USA Softball Association, a $30 per team fee. Teams are also subject to a maximum $50 per team non-resident fee if 6+ players reside outside the City of Davis limits.
Registration begins on Monday, August 6th, 2018 at 8:00AM and ends Friday, August 17th, 2018 at 5:00PM or earlier if leagues fill. Any teams wanting to sign up after August 17th must get the approval of the League Coordinator and is subject to a $25 late fee.
The 2017-18 Adult Basketball leagues begin play on Monday, November 6, 2017. Team registration will begin in August and will continue until 5:00 p.m. on Friday October 13, 2017. A lottery will be held if there are more teams than spaces available. Each team will play between ten and twelve games, depending on the number of teams that register, and fees will range from $500 to $600.

The NFL season may be over but you and your friends can still enjoy some football on Sundays with our Spring Adult Flag Football League. This 5-on-5 non-contact league is a 6-8 game season and will be played on the synthetic turf field at Playfields Park, rain or shine! League structure, number of games, fees, and game times will depend on the number of teams registered. The fee listed is for a 6 game season. Registration information will be available in the Winter/Spring Recreation Guide.

Grab your sneakers and head out to the Community (North) Gym on the Davis Senior High School campus and join us for a year round drop-in, open gym program for Adult basketball. A $5 per person per day fee is collected at the door.
7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
The Open Gym Basketball program will be cancelled on Thursday, June 28 due to floor maintenance. We will resume programming on Thursday, July 5th.
Come join us for Adult Drop-in Volleyball on Wednesdays and Sundays in the Community Gym on the Davis High School campus. All playing levels are welcome. A $7 per person per day fee is collected at the door.
Wednesdays: 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Sundays: 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The Open Gym Volleyball program will be cancelled on Wednesday, June 27 due to floor maintenance and July 4th due to the holiday. We will resume programming on Wednesday, July 11th.
Junior Basketball Program (3rd-6th Graders)
Registration is officially open for ALL sections of the 2019 Junior Basketball League! Space is limited due to the popularity of this program.
It looks like Cesar Chavez (3rd-4th TuTh) and Pioneer (5th-6th TuTh) were on the ball and got their Junior Basketball sign ups done early! If you were hoping to sign your child up for either of these sections, don’t worry! Add your child on the desired team’s wait-list, as plans can change from now until January when the league begins. There is a chance that new sections may become available for teams that have already met the maximum enrollment. Based upon their status, wait-listed players receive priority registration for new sections as they become available. However, this possibility remains dependent upon multiple factors, such as: recruitment of coaches, court availability, practice/game schedules, etc.
When a team meets the maximum enrollment of 10 players, a wait-list is started for that section for any additional players. If space becomes available either through a new section or a player withdrawing from the team, then families on the wait-list are contacted directly by our department about enrollment into the available space. Players who are added onto a wait-list for a team are not required to pay any enrollment fees until space becomes available for their requested team.
Space is limited, so an alternative option to the wait-list route would be to register your child for one of the teams that currently has space available. If possible, registering for another team is an option available to all parents, regardless of their child’s current elementary school attendance.

Parents recruited as the head coach will have their child’s Junior Basketball registration fee waived.”
The 2019 Junior Basketball Program is for boys in third through sixth grades and girls in third through sixth grades. Play begins the week of January 14, 2019. The fee for the 7 week program is $135 and includes a team t-shirt. Registration will be taken through Friday, November 30, 2018. Some registration may be taken after November 30, 2018, but only if space permits. Please see below for program specifics.
Junior Basketball Program General Information
We need a minimum of 7 players to form a junior basketball team; 8-10 players per team is best. Sometimes it is necessary to combine 2 teams to form one larger team with 7-10 players. If this is necessary for your child's team, we will contact you by phone or email and explain your options. After the signup deadline, children on waiting lists will have the option of staying on the waiting list or they can move to another team that has openings. If a team has too many drops or has late drops, it may be cancelled. We will try our best to place all children that want to play.
Your child's coach will contact you prior to the first practice. In most cases, coaches will not contact parents until after January 8, 2019. Coaches will go through training up to January 8 and will not receive their team roster until after their training is complete. Monday/Wednesday practice teams will be contacted no later than Sunday evening, January 13. Tuesday/Thursday practice teams will be notified no later than Monday evening, January 14. The coach will tell you the time and reconfirm the location of your child's practices.
Your child’s practice location and days are chosen by you. You sign your child up for a specific school (or park) practice location and specific days of practice, M/W or T/Th. Coaches try to arrange practice times as close to the end of school as possible. The optimal start times for 3/4 and 5/6 grade teams is 3:15 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. Coaches are not allowed on school grounds prior to the last release time (3:15pm for M, T, Th, F and 1:30pm on W). Although the elementary school children are released from school at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, not all coaches will be able to start practice that early. Please be aware that Wednesday practices may start early but may also not start until 4:00 p.m. or later. Most practices for elementary teams are from 1 to 1 ½ hours.
All games are played on Saturdays.
3/4 & boys and 3/4 grades girls will play in the Community (North) Gym at the High School while 5/6 grade boys and 5/6 grade girls will play in the Old (South) Gym or the Community (North) Gym at the High School. Please be aware that games may conflict with other activities (ie., AAU basketball, soccer, baseball, club activities). If your child will not be able to attend games on a regular basis on Saturdays, please reconsider taking part in this program. When a player consistently misses practices or games it negatively impacts his/her team.
A schedule for the games played on Saturday January 19, 2019, will be available the first week of the program. After observing the games on January 20, another schedule will be made for the remainder of the season. This schedule will be distributed at practices and posted on this webpage the week of January 21. By observing the first week of games and then making the final schedule, we hope to match teams more evenly in their games. Your child will receive his/her team shirt at the first game.
No individual statistics or team standings are kept. Everyone plays every game. Fundamental skills, sportsmanship and fun are emphasized. We want the participants to play hard, play fair and feel good about their effort. As a parent, your support of this philosophy will be appreciated. We are always looking for good coaches so if your schedule allows you the opportunity to coach, please do not hesitate to apply to coach your son or daughter’s team.
Basketball Coaches Needed
We are seeking positive, committed, friendly and energetic role models to coach the City of Davis Junior Basketball Program (Boys and Girls Grade 3-6). For parents and family members of players, coaching is a great way to spend more time with your child while they enjoy a great sport. Anyone passionate about basketball is encouraged to volunteer their time and help make this popular program successful. Parents selected as the head coach will have their child's Junior Basketball registration fee waived. All coaches will be required to pass a background check and attend a training session of Tuesday January 8 at 6pm (Location TBD). Teen Open Gym is a long time program held in the Community Gym on the Davis Senior High School campus on Saturday evenings from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoons from 1:30-3:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity for teens, grades 9-12, to drop in on a game of badminton or basketball. Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment, but the program does have some equipment available for daily use. There is a $2.00 drop-in fee to participate.
